Tablets from Fujitsu and Asus arrive in market

Bhaktapur, FEB 04 - Sales of computing devices have surged in recent days. And to cash in on the market, domestic distributors of global brands have been busy importing the newest devices. Continuing the trend, two new tablets have been launched in the domestic market. SHTC International, the sole authorised distributor of Fujitsu, has introduced the Fujitsu Q550, and Nagmani International, the sole authorised distributor of Asus, has brought in the Asus TF1010 – NVDIA Tegra 2 tablet in the market.
The newly unveiled Fujitsu tablet runs on Intel Atom Z670 processor (1.50 GHz) and is integrated with Genuine Windows 7 Professional 32-bit Operating System (OS).  Along with a 10.1 inch in-plane switching WXGA anti-glare touch screen, the machine comprises a 2 GB RAM and 62 GB SSD SATA hard drive. Other features include Bluetooth, SD/SDHC card slots and quick launch panel, a three programmable application launch button (Ctrl+Alt+Dell/Rotation and Menu). “The market for computing devices has been swelling continuously, and domestic customers want the latest devices. This is why we have come up with this new device,” said DB Shrestha, administration and operation manager at SHTC International.
According to him, the newly unveiled device is the first tablet available in the domestic market featuring genuine Windows operating system. People can operate various programmes like Ms-Word, Excel and PDF files in this device. “As the device runs on Windows platform, it provides customers all the features provided by a laptop or desktop computer,” Shrestha said. However, this tablet does not function as a phone because of the OS it runs on. SHTC has stated that the tablet has been targeted at professionals and high-end techno-savvy people. The device, which is directly imported from Japan, carries a price tag of Rs 136,000. Despite being pricey, the company believes that the new device will be successful in the Nepali market due to its quality.
“We have been selling Fujitsu products in the Nepali market since the last 12 years, and have earned the loyalty of customers who prefer quality over price,” Shrestha said, adding that the company aimed to sell 15 tablets monthly. The Fujitsu tablet comes with a global warranty of one year.
Likewise, Nagmani International has come up with the Asus TF101-Nvdia Tegra 2 tablet. This new device from Asus runs on Android 3.2 Honeycomb OS and possesses NVDIA Tegra 21.0 GHz CPU. Along with 1 GB RAM, the machine has a 16 GB hard disk drive. It has a 10.1 inch IPS LED multi touch panel with g-sensor, light sensor, gyroscope, e-compass and GPS features. Other features include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 1.2 mega pixel front and 5 mega pixel rear camera. “One can also dock a keyboard with this device. People who need to do a lot of typing will find it convenient,” said Super Shrestha, product manager – AUSU at Nagmani International. “Likewise, the keyboard comes with a battery backup of eight hours and the tablet itself has eight hours’ battery backup making the device’s total battery backup stand at 16 hours.”
Besides this, users can also use pen drives. Nagmani International has said that the company is receiving frequent queries about the machine and 20 units imported in the first batch have been sold. Around eight units of the tablet have been booked, the company said. The company imports these tablets from the company’s headquarters in Taiwan and gives a two-year international warranty. Nagmani International has priced the device at Rs 72,000. The one without 3G compatibility costs Rs 5,000 less.
